Invisalign First

Invisalign First is a system of Invisalign specially designed to solve urgent bite problems for kids with mixed dentition or a developing bite with both adult and baby teeth. Using the well-researched Invisalign technology and SmartTrack material, It creates a digital map of our doctor’s treatment plan and translates it into a series of aligners.

How is IT different from regular Invisalign?

Kids grow so fast. Invisalign First is engineered with this in mind. The shape of its aligners changes and adapts to match the changes in your child’s growing dentition. Its optimized attachments adjust and resize according to the available tooth surfaces of a young child’s teeth. This allows for more effective ‘gripping’ of aligners to a mix of adult and baby teeth.

It utilizes a different expansion protocol and force levels compared to teens and adults to account for your child’s mixed dentition stage.

Kids with unerupted adult teeth benefit from its adaptive eruption compensation features and virtual pontics to accommodate new adult teeth as they appear in your child’s mouth.

It can be customized to incorporate the Invisalign Mandibular Advancement Feature (Invisalign-MA) to guide lower jaw growth in kids with short jaws.

Kids treated with Invisalign First enjoy the comfort of thin, flexible aligners, ease of dental hygiene, and eating as usual. Still, they can also have fun and customize their aligners to reflect their personality. Check out Invisalign Stickables from the US store here

What type of cases can IT treat?

It can treat a broad range of Phase I problems:

  • Dental crowding
  • Arch expansion
  • Midline correction
  • Large ‘overbite’ (Overjet)
  • Underbite
  • Deep bite
  • Open bite
  • Crossbite
  • Asymmetry
  • Scissors bite

Invisalign First Arch Expansion and Invisalign Expander System are often used to help patients with chronic airway obstruction. Expanding the palate, or the ‘roof of the mouth’, helps to widen the base of the nasal cavity, thus improving airflow for young patients.

Is it safe for kids to use Invisalign First?

It is made with an FDA-approved, medical-grade, high molecular weight, thermoplastic polymer that is safe to wear in the mouth. This material is called SmartTrack. It is flexible and resistant to twisting and tearing and even against the wear of teeth grinding. Remember that aligners are changed every 5-7 days, so a fresh set is readily available.

SmartTrack material has no sharp metal parts or edges to cause ulcers and poke lip/ cheeks. It is hypo-allergenic, and allergic reactions to Smarttrack material are rare. Invisalign aligners are removable for dental care. So get in there and brush and floss as normal.

Using Invisalign is safer for active, sporty kids than fixed metal braces.  Lip cuts and abrasions are severe with fixed metal braces during sports collisions, whereas Invisalign aligners offer a thin protective layer over teeth. A fully customized sports guard may still be needed for kids who play serious contact sports.

Talented, musical kids who play wind instruments are safe from having metal bracket imprints on their lips, so blow and play away!
