  • Please call us ASAP if you lose your aligner to inform us and seek advice.
  • Go to the next set of aligners and wear for Double the number of days if it is NOT too tight.
  • If it is Too tight/ Painful, DO NOT Force the next aligner in. Please go back to the previous set of aligner and inform us to reorder the missing set of aligners. Replacement costs apply.
  1. Avoid wrapping aligners in tissue paper as they are easily (and frequently) thrown away.
  2. Avoid storing aligners in the Macdonald/ Burger box during mealtime as you may accidentally throw them away!
  3. Minimize removing aligners repeatedly over the course of the day. Wearing your aligners as often as possible reduces the risk of losing them and makes for effective tooth movement!

Common reasons for aligners breaking or tearing:

  1. Improper way of removing aligners with too much twisting and flexing
  2. Short clinical crown height of teeth
  3. Using the tongue to play with the aligners

Please call us ASAP to schedule an earlier appointment for our Orthodontic Team to investigate.

Wear the next or previous set of aligners to HOLD teeth in position till your next appointment with us.

  1. Can’t seem to remove your new aligners? Hold warm water in your mouth for one minute to soften the aligners, then try again.
  2. Ease into new aligners by starting to wear them overnight first. This allows teeth to shift while you are asleep. By morning, you will feel less tight.
  3. If the next aligners feel too tight or hurts to wear the next set of aligners, please Do NOT FORCE THEM IN. Consider moving backwards to a previous set and call the clinic for further instructions.

Aligners may be loose due to the following reasons:

  1. Missing attachments
  2. Damaged aligners
  3. Off tracking
  4. The wrong aligner being used
  5. Change in tooth shape due to fillings or fractured teeth

Please call the clinic for an appointment as this needs to be troubleshooted by your doctor.

  • Avoid jumbled-up aligners by keeping the current set away first BEFORE opening a new set of aligners. This prevents 2 sets from being óut in the open at the same time.
  • Check that the number references are at the bottom of each aligner carefully. You should be wearing the SAME aligner number for the top AND bottom.

  • Please do not cut aligners!
  • Try filing down the rough spot with an emery board or sandpaper.
  • If the sharp spot comes from the spot where you wear elastics from, try to bend the aligner hook inwards away from your lip or cheek. Avoid filing or cutting the aligner elastic hook to prevent permanent damage.

  • Check for ‘Dog-Ear Aligner margins. This happens when the aligners are seated wrongly and the aligner margin folds inwards. This creates a thicker margin and a smaller opening causing the aligners to unseat. Unfold the ‘dog-ear’ and try again.
  • If your aligner pops out on one side/ fits poorly/ causes a lot of pain, do not force. Take a picture of the ‘problem’ aligner in your mouth and send it to us via email or call us for further assistance.
  • New teeth may be emerging and blocking the aligners. Please call us ASAP to arrange for an earlier appointment.
  • Some teeth with difficult tooth movement may not track as well as other teeth and lag behind. This can cause aligner fitting issues. Please contact our Orthodontic team for advice.
