Cost of Braces for Jaw Surgery

What is the cost of braces for jaw surgery?

The cost of braces or Invisalign for jaw surgery cases is typically higher than standard orthodontic treatment. This reflects the increased complexity involved, including detailed treatment planning, close monitoring, and coordination between multiple specialists.

In Singapore, the total cost of correcting a jaw discrepancy generally consists of two main components:

  • Jaw surgery fees – managed by the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon
  • Orthodontic treatment fees – for braces or Invisalign before and after surgery

Orthodontic treatment in these cases is more than just aligning teeth. It involves preparing the dental arches for surgery, ensuring the jaws fit correctly during the procedure, and refining the bite afterward for long-term stability.

Jaw surgery cases require a multidisciplinary approach, with close collaboration between the Orthodontist and the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon. This level of coordination, along with the expertise required, is reflected in the overall treatment cost.

Braces or Invisalign for Jaw Surgery: Can You Use Medisave or Insurance in Singapore?

In general, Medisave and insurance do not cover the cost of braces or Invisalign, even when they are part of a jaw surgery treatment plan.

Medisave:
The use of Medisave for orthodontic treatment (including braces for jaw surgery) is not allowed, as regulations are set by the Ministry of Health.

Insurance:
Coverage depends on the specific terms of your individual policy. While jaw surgery itself may sometimes be covered, orthodontic treatment is typically excluded.

We recommend speaking directly with your insurance provider or agent to clarify what aspects of your treatment—if any—may be claimable.

If needed, we’re happy to assist by providing supporting documents or clinical details to support your insurance claims.

What is the cost of jaw surgery in Singapore?

The cost of jaw surgery in Singapore can vary significantly depending on several key factors:

  • Complexity of the jaw surgery
  • Hospital or surgical facility where the procedure is performed
  • Expertise and experience of the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon

Because every jaw surgery case is highly individualised, an accurate fee can only be provided after a detailed consultation with the surgeon.

At MyBracesClinic, we work closely with a team of Specialist Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons.

During your surgical consultation, they will assess your condition and provide a clear breakdown of the surgical fees involved.

Please note that MyBracesClinic is not able to quote jaw surgery fees on behalf of the surgeons, as all surgical costs are determined independently by the surgical team.

Jaw Surgery: Can You Use Medisave or Insurance in Singapore?

Jaw surgery costs can be partially covered by Medisave and, in some cases, private insurance.

Medisave:
The CPF Board allows Medisave to be used for corrective jaw surgery, as it is classified as a medical procedure.
Withdrawal limits for surgery and hospitalisation typically range from SGD $5,000 to $9,000, depending on the procedure and surgical table codes set by the Ministry of Health.
Do note that Medisave does not cover 100% of the surgical cost.

Insurance:
Many hospitalisation insurance plans provide coverage for jaw surgery, as it is not considered a cosmetic procedure.
However, coverage depends on the specific terms of your policy, including:

  • Waiting periods (or “washout periods”):
Most policies require a minimum period of coverage before you can make a claim. If the condition is considered pre-existing, it may be excluded or subject to longer waiting periods.
  • Policy type and limits:
Coverage varies widely depending on whether you hold an Integrated Shield Plan, rider, or private insurance plan.
  • Overseas patients:
If you are not insured in Singapore, do check whether your policy covers treatment performed locally.
  •

Your Oral Surgeons will guide you through the expected surgical costs and claims process during your consultation.
